    INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES

11th grade United States History picks up where eighth grade history left off and covers the years between 1877 to the present.  This time period covers such topics as Industrialization, Westward Expansion, the Spanish-American War, WWI and WWII, the Depression, the Cold War including Korea and Vietnam, the Civil Rights Movement, the Women’s Rights Movement, and more.  My teaching style includes large and small group activities, projects, discussions, and some lecture with note-taking.

    GRADING

    • The Social Studies Department grades on a 50/50 rule.  Minor grades count as 50% of your grade and Major Grades will count as 50% of your grade.  You will have a minimum of nine grades per nine weeks.  At least two of those grades will be Major Grades.
    • Homework- will be given approximately one time per week.  It is given to practice what is taught in class and will count as a Minor grade.  Please refer to Google Classroom for homework assignments.
    • Late Work- Daily work or Homework turned in after the due date, but before the three-week grading period will be given a 70 as the highest grade attainable.  Work that is turned in after the three-week grading period will receive a 50.
    • Make-up Work/Absences- It is important that you are in school every day. Check Google Classroom when absent to keep up with class work and test dates.   All make-up work is due the next class period.  It will be your responsibility to make sure all work is received and turned in at the appropriate time.
    • Tests-  Review sheets for tests will be available at least one class period before the test.  You may retest if you receive a grade lower than a 70.  Retesting must take place within one week of grade posted in Skyward.  The highest grade you can receive on a retest will be a 70.
    • No extra credit assignments will be offered.
    • Semester exams will be given at the end of each semester.  All students must take the fall exam.  Spring exemptions are outlined in your student handbook.
    • Progress reports will be available on Skyward every three weeks with Report Cards available on Skyward at the end of each nine week grading period.
