Mrs. Lynnese Graves, AKBD
Lynnese Graves graduated from Southwest Texas State University (Texas State University) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics Education. Majoring first in Interior Design, her love for the subject guided her into the design industry as owner of her stained glass company from 1994 - 2002. Being an entrepreneur allowed her to put her teaching career on hold in order to be a stay-at-home mom for her three children. 2024-2025 marks Mrs. Graves’ 31st year of teaching, twenty eight years as a Family and Consumer Science teacher in public schools and three as a preschool teacher for a private school. Her husband of 40 years has been by her side every step of the way.
This year is her 25th year teaching for Boerne ISD. Mrs. Graves has taught Interior Design for all 28 years, eight of those being articulated for college credit. Eight years ago, she added the Architecture Design pathway courses to her schedule and is excited to continue to provide her students with new certification opportunities. Three years ago, each level of the Architecture and Interior Design curriculum was combined, allowing students to see both sides of these exciting and creative careers. Additional careers that are explored are landscape architecture, construction management and real estate.
Students in this pathway have the opportunity to include the following certifications on their professional resume’:
10-Hour OSHA Workplace Safety Certification
National Chief Architect Apprentice Examination
Beginning this year, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) curriculum will be incorporated into all four levels of pathway classes, so students can also earn this certification.
Mrs. Graves has also been lead advisor for FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) for 28 years. She has received recognition as Region V Advisor of the Year, National Master FCCLA Advisor, and has mentored many new advisors and FCS teachers entering into this prestigious profession. Her favorite hobbies include organic gardening, cooking and touring historic homes and buildings. She is also currently serving on Boerne's Historic Landmark Commission. This year will be her fourth year to also serve as advisor to SKILLS USA - Architecture Club. She has recently added the appellation of National Kitchen and Bath Association Associate Kitchen and Bath Designer Certification and Universal Design Specialist.
