Course Expectations:
I expect all of my students to work hard and accomplish more than they ever dreamed they could! This is a career pathway oriented set of classes. Work-based learning pathways get you ready for life after high school. It is my job to provide a combination of classroom instruction with on-the-job learning experience (seniors). Some of the topics we cover in this pathway are:
- Where to begin: site location, budget
- Governmental codes – what you can and cannot do while building or renovating a home
- Basic construction of a home & reading blueprints
- Effective communication with contractors and subcontractors
- Choosing environmentally friendly and sustainable materials for your home and using them safely
- Basic tools of the trade
- Fall construction project
- NKBA Bathroom Design Project
- Major Chief Architect Software Project (individual cabins using sustainable storage container)
- Concept Board3D Model of designed cabin
- Career Portfolio Development (Resume)
- Professional Presentation Skills
By the end of this pathway, students should feel comfortable with the above skills and they should have a solid foundation on which to build a successful career in architectural design.
