WHAT IS AVID?AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID's mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society. In B.I.S.D., AVID is offered through a schoolwide model in which all students receive the benefit of AVID strategies through their content classes, in addition to specific AVID curriculum that is embedded into the scope and sequence of their CTE electives: Student Leadership, Digital Literacy I & II, STEM I & II, Wellness, and College & Career Readiness.8th students are also eligible to apply for the AVID Elective. The objective of the AVID Elective is to provide determined students with academic support while motivating and equipping them to learn and demonstrate the habits of successful students so that they are prepared for success in high school, college, and beyond. AVID is an academic program that focuses on writing as a tool of learning, the inquiry method, collaborative teamwork, and reading. ALL AVID Elective students MUST be enrolled in a rigorous curriculum such as Honors, AP, and/or Dual Credit classes as well as the AVID Elective.
