In Mrs. Brace's class we will be studying lots of amazing things and preparing for the amazing world of middle school.
In fifth grade Language Arts, students read and understand a wide variety of literary and informational texts and compose a variety of written texts with a clear controlling idea, coherent organization, and sufficient detail. Students will engage in activities that build on their prior knowledge and skills in order to strengthen their reading, writing and oral language skills and should read and write on a daily basis.
In Social Studies, students will focus on the history of the United States from 1565 to the present. Historical content includes the colonial period, the American Revolution, the establishment of the U.S. Constitution and American identity, westward expansion, the Civil War and Reconstruction, immigration and industrialization, and the 20th and 21st centuries. Students will use critical-thinking skills to identify cause-and-effect relationships, compare and contrast, and make generalizations and predictions.
