Mrs. Dehann A. Riou

I am the Special Education Inclusion teacher serving Kindergarten through 2nd grade. I've been teaching for 17 years and began my career as a generalist in a 5th grade classroom in a San Antonio school district before moving over to BISD five years ago. I'm certified to teach K-8 as a Generalist and Special Education K-12. It's a privilege for me to work with my students every day. It's amazing to see them learn and grow.

I've been happily married for 33 years and our son is a junior at Texas Tech. Wreck em! In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family playing games, cooking,traveling and reading. I also enjoy doing crafts, making things with pretty paper and learning new things. I keep a bucket list of things I want to learn, try or see. It's a lot of fun checking things off the list and keep adding to it. The latest thing I added was to visit the Great Lakes and visit Mt. Rushmore.

I believe one of my most important jobs as a Special Education teacher is to teach my students to advocate for themselves by learning what accommodations they need to be successful. Students with learning difficulties can often feel embarrassed or out of place when learning is difficult. I do my best to teach them to feel comfortable in their own skin so to speak which boosts their confidence and helps them be risk takers with learning. I am blessed to be a part of this amazing community and look forward to many years to come in Boerne ISD.
