Mrs. Greta Lucas

Greta Lucas has served the BISD Elementary Gifted and Talented Enrichment Program for Fabra Elementary's Gifted and Talented students since 2005. Greta earned her Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Texas at San Antonio and feels being an educator is a profoundly challenging and rewarding job.  Participating in student discovery of their own unique gifts and empowering children to take control of their own learning is both a privilege and a pleasure Greta is grateful for every day.  Greta and her husband have lived in Boerne for over thirty years and have two grown boys who were Fabra Falcons.

  • Gifted and Talented Enrichment Classroom (G.A.T.E)

The GATE classroom provides an additional tier of service to identified elementary Gifted and Talented children. Students go to the GATE classroom for a minimum of 90 minutes a week to receive curriculum and instruction designed to provide additional challenge and opportunity to pursue topics of interest.  Participation is voluntary; parents may opt out of this service.

GATE instruction is based on the Texas Performance Standards Project (State G/T) curriculum and Project Based Learning, which is an extended inquiry process structured around complex, authentic questions and carefully designed products and tasks specifically designed for gifted and talented students. Students will also use Vex Robotics kits to participate in STEM building and coding activities throughout the school year.

Activities in the GATE classroom are designed to cause students to think in more in-depth and complex ways. GATE teachers use Sandra Kaplan’s model of Depth and Complexity and her icons for each element to engage students in assimilating new information, making connections, and digging for deeper understandings. GATE lessons provide the opportunity for students to acquire and build collaboration, effective communication, and problem-solving skills while inspiring students to become lifelong learners.
