Credit By Exam Administration - Registration and Parent Acknowledgement Form

    ________________________________________________________________________

Credit-by-Examination Without Prior Instruction (for acceleration) is administered for the purpose of acceleration and designed to address the needs of the following:

    • Students in Kindergarten through 5th grade who desire to “skip” a grade. Students who are the best candidates for acceleration excel in language arts/reading, mathematics, science, and social studies and are physically and emotionally mature for their ages.

    OR

    • Students in grades 6-12 who are highly knowledgeable in the essential knowledge and skills of one or more subjects and who are capable of “skipping” the subject. Secondary students shall not have had prior instruction in the subject.**

    For one subject:

Credit by examination without prior instruction requires a score of at least 80 percent on the exam to earn credit. (EHDC Legal)**

For skipping an entire grade level:

The student must score at least an 80 percent on each of the four content area exams, which includes: language arts/reading, mathematics, science, and social studies, in order to “skip” the grade level. (EHDC Legal)**

    Limitations on taking examinations:

A student may not attempt more than two times to receive credit for a particular subject on the basis of an examination for credit in that subject.

If a student fails to achieve the designated score on an applicable examination for a subject before the beginning of the school year in which the student would ordinarily be required to enroll in a course in that subject in accordance with the District's prescribed course sequence, the student must satisfactorily complete the course to receive credit for the course. (EHDC Legal)
